Scaffolder compensated after being left permanently disabled

A man has made a work injury claim against his employer after he suffered a serious injury to his foot, which resulted in him being left permanently disabled.

The man, who has not been named, had been altering some scaffolding so that it would be possible to pass large objects through it.

When he had finished the task, he began to descend the scaffold ladders so he could get back down. There was a barrier around the ladders, with self-closing gates for access and unbeknown to the man, the gate at the base of the ladders had actually been left in an open position by another worker.

Man compensated after hospital missed brain tumour

A man has made a personal injury claim for medical negligence, when he was almost left blind after a hospital failed to diagnose a brain tumour.

The fifty-year-old man from Warrington, had undergone a CT scan and was told that his scan had come back completely clear. The tumour was not spotted; despite the fact that he had several further follow up appointments over the course of a year.

It was not until four years later that the benign tumour was discovered by the Ophthalmology Department, after his optician had thought he’d seen something abnormal during a routine check-up.

Care worker compensated after needlestick injury

A careworker has made a successful personal injury claim against her employer, after she pricked herself with a needle that had not been removed from a packet.

The woman, who has not been named, was assisting a resident at the care home where she worked, when the incident took place.

As she was opening a glucose pack, she ended up pricking herself with the needle. This should have been removed from the pack when not in use, as clearly being pricked by an already used needle can potentially put a person at great risk of catching a disease or infection.
